Family Disaster Plan (Earthquake)

The majority of people do not live in earthquake zones; and even fewer have been through a substantial quake.  Here is a preparedness list for those who do live in an area prone to earthquakes.  You can never be too prepared. Earthquake Preparedness

Out of town

Wow. The land of extremes. Yesterday we saw 107°, 40+ mph wind. While the sun was glaring down on us we were treated to something new to me...hot rain. Not much just enough. All this followed by a killer dust storm.

More of the same today. Gotta love it. Be sure and check out the site. We've started the library section. If I can I'll post tomorrow. Back home next tuesday. Till then stay cool. I know I won't.

Family Disaster Plan (House Fire)

Not all disasters affect large numbers of people some occur on a small scale, but bring with them devastation beyond descriptionA house fire is one of those disasters.  They don't all make the news, nor will a house fire wreak havoc on a city, state or nation.  That does not lesson its impact on those involved.  Here is a step by step preparation guide specifically for house fires.

Developing a Tornado Safety Kit

Here are some tips for putting together supplies in the case of a tornado.  A big difference between this and other storm preparedness is that tornadoes can strike without much warning; limiting your response time.  Advance planning is crucial.

These items would be extremely useful to have in your storm shelter, or to take with you to your storm shelter, when severe weather strikes.

The site continues to grow.

SurvivalClick  continues to expand.  We have begun establishing a Facebook presence and I have met some very interesting and helpful people online.  I am looking forward to the delivery of an item that will be the subject of my first product review.  (I'll let it be surprise) SurvivalClick.com is also gearing up for an email news letter to be delivered once a month and no more than twice a month.  You can sign up for that on the website.  www.survivalnet.com .  The sign up process is easy.  I have deliberately requested only the minimum information needed for you to receive an email.

Who do you tell???

I was listening to Preparedness Pro Radio 06-11-2011 this morning.  While discussing the misconceptions and truth about hoarding; Kellene Bishop talked about the caution needed when letting your neighbors know about the level of your preparedness.  This brought up some interesting questions for me personally.

I’m a “low-key” guy when it comes to my survival preparedness.  I believe if I am calm, methodical and “low-key” (laid back, but not lackadaisical)  about preparing for disasters the mindset will carry over should the time come to utilize plans, equipment  and/or supplies.  Because of this none of my surrounding neighbors know anything about my plans.  I have one other family unit that knows I am preparing (so are they) but we do not know completely what the other has.

Which leads me to the question…

What do you tell and to whom do you tel it?  Why or why not?  What are your thoughts on this topic?

Website Update

Survival Click is on Face Book. I have begun the arduous task of hand picking advertisements. Like the hours I have spent and will spend on the store; the adds are hand picked and represent only the things I have, wish I had or know enough about to recommend it.  In the future you can expect to see links to videos that I have found useful.  If you have any suggestions for us to look at or something you have questions about don't hesitate to ask.

Family Disaster Plan (Hurricane)

There are a lot of disasters that strike with out warning. Hurricanes are not one of them. Thanks to technology we usually have days of advance prep time.  It's up to you to use this time wisely.  Here is a basic plan for families.  I hope it serves you well.

CKG

Discuss the type of hazards that could affect your family. Know your home's vulnerability to storm surge, flooding and wind.

Locate a safe room or the safest areas in your home for each hurricane hazard. In certain circumstances the safest areas may not be your home but within your community.

Determine escape routes from your home and places to meet. These should be measured in tens of miles rather than hundreds of miles.

Have an out-of-state friend as a family contact, so all your family members have a single point of contact.

Make a plan now for what to do with your pets if you need to evacuate.

Post emergency telephone numbers by your phones and make sure your children know how and when to call 911.

Check your insurance coverage - flood damage is not usually covered by homeowners insurance.

Stock non-perishable emergency supplies and a Disaster Supply Kit.

Use a weather radio. Remember to replace its battery every 6 months, as you do with your smoke detectors.

Take First Aid, CPR and disaster preparedness classes.

Navigation

Ok... Here's the deal.  Most everyone I have met knows what a compass is.  Very few know how to use one.  even fewer know how to use one well. I fall into the last category.  I can use one but not well.  It takes practice.  Here is a chapter from  FM 3-25-26  It's a long post.  Copy it, paste it into your word processor, print it out and use it.  Keep it on file.  Take it camping with you and practice.

Not with a BANG...

Well, One day ahead of schedule and I am attempting to get the blog feed up and running.  This "Passive Income" thing sure takes a lot of work.  Glad I enjoy it.  Uploaded files and collecting more free content.  Have a store banner working....Well here goes.

Welcome to Survivalclick

Welcome,

Not that long ago I was searching the web for "survival gear".   After about 16 hours of chasing waterfalls and rainbows  I was internet saturated.  I had a ton of information but I also had forgotten what I was looking for and where I had started.

The idea was for my own use originally.  One place where a person who wants to be prepared for natural and or man made disasters can go and find what they are looking for.  "SurvivalClick.com" is the infant form of that idea.  Which until now has existed in a hodgepodge of bookmarks. word documents and hyperlinks.  Please feel free to send ideas or suggestions to me at survivalclick@gmail.com.
